Call to take part in Chernobyl international action day

> Register your action on this site

Reactor No 4 at Chernobyl exploded on April 26th 1986, 23 years ago. That day, the biggest technological and industrial disaster the world has ever known began. Chernobyl keeps claiming victims nowadays : its irreversible and catastrophic impact on health (cancers, multiple organ failures, mutations...) will affect generations to come.

For the independence of the WHO and for the truth about the consequences of radioactive contaminations on health.

Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the UN, has estimated that more than seven million people have been affected by the accident. The International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA) keeps pretending that no more than 50 people have died, so as to protect the nuclear industry.

Refuse to forget Chernobyl!

We cannot let the sacrifice of the 800,000 people who worked on the clean up job to limit the scope of the disaster be forgotten, and who, in their hundreds of thousands (according to the Russian and Ukrainian ambassadors in France) have paid with either their health or their lives, to help save us. 23 years later, there’s more risk than ever of lies and disinformation masking the terrible truths about the health consequences of the accident. 500,000 children in Belarus suffer from daily exposure to radioactivity and are today simply abandoned to their fate. Lies and forgetfulness, added to the complicity of some countries and international institutions, encourage the nuclear lobby to propose the construction of new reactors in countries all over the world.

If you’re against this denial and forgetfulness, support the international action day against nuclear power on April 25th or 26th 2009

Let’s make this symbolic date a big event in our diaries by joining our strengths in marking the anniversary in as many ways and places as possible. Let’s use our imagination and energies to organize as many actions as possible to remember Chernobyl and to denounce nuclear power as not simply insane but actually criminal. 50 years ago, in 1959, the IAEA and the WHO (World Health Organization) signed an agreement which is the tangible proof of a complicity and of a scandalous submission of the WHO to the IAEA.

Now, it’s up to you:

Organizations and citizens of the world : become a participant of this international day of action. Feel free to organize an action and to let us know what and where it is. Your group will be listed in the section "Partners" of this website.

Here are some suggestions/ideas for actions :

  • Sell so-called vegetables from Chernobyl area at the market place with a fact sheet…
  • On a public place, ask people for filling a form to engage themselves as liquidators for the next major accident…
  • After one year of a lasting presence in front of the WHO (World Health Organisation) to denounce its links with IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) on radioactivity questions related to health, a major action will take place in Geneva on the 26th of April : hundreds of persons will stand during hours in circle around the WHO building with radioactive white masks (see in attachment) to remember the forgotten victims of the Chernobyl disaster. Various groups already plan to do the same (even with few persons + cards + flowers?) in their own towns. You can copy the mask an join them in your own way where you are !

Thank you to let us know what you will do for the 2009 Chernobyl day with the following information :

  • Country, town and the precise place in the town
  • Date and hour of the planned event
  • Short description of the event
  • Contact > Name of group, person, e-mail and telephone number

Not to forget ! Take pictures of your action and send it to http://www.chernobyl-day.org

Working together on this day can help influence worldwide public opinion. Never forget Chernobyl ! Express your determination that we must get out of this nuclear mess.
